Ford’s sales leader in small SUV’s, The Ford Escape, was developed and built in cooperation with Mazda, who markets their version as the Mazda Tribute. The Escape made its public debut at the North American International Autoshow in January 2000 and was an all-new model for Ford in 2001. The small 4-door Escape fills out Ford's SUV line-up that includes Explorer, Expedition and Excursion. The Escape is built with unibody construction and features 4-wheel independent suspension. Unlike the rest of Ford's SUVs, Escape is available with either front-wheel-drive or four-wheel drive. Available with a 2.3L 4 cylinder engine or a 3.0L V6, Ford’s littlest SUV has proven itself to be a highly adaptive player in the North American SUV market. Available as an XL, XLT, or Limited, the Escape offers an option/pricing equation that most people can afford. Equipment packages range from the base XL’s cloth interior, Front Wheel Drive layout to the luxurious Escape Limited, available with heated leather power seats, moonroof, alloy wheels and four wheel drive. Ford introduced the Escape Hybrid in 2007, and it remains one of the most fuel efficient small SUV’s on the market. In 2004, Escape offered a Limited Luxury Comfort Package which included a MACH audio system, heated outside mirrors, reverse sensing system, leather-trimmed seats, and heated front seats, as well as an XLT No Boundaries Package with a No Boundaries roof rack, 16-inch sport aluminum wheels, and step bars. The Ford Escape remains a solid seller for Ford, and seems to have struck the right chord with consumers. Its combination of options, style, performance and price make the Escape the right choice for many.
